Gold Miners Claim 2nd Zion Bowl Crown!

Tony Iverson's quest to become only the second ZFL coach to win 4 ZFL tournaments in a row came up short when his Stoners missed a 18 yard field goal on the last play of the Zion Bowl Championship Game. That miss allowed Jim Cantrell to win 35-32, his 2nd straight Zion Bowl title and raises the Gold Miners as the team to beat in 2006. In addition to winning last January's Birthday Bowl Jim now has a 3 win 1 loss record in 2006 ZFL tournaments. Tony's Stoners won tight games in the 1st two rounds of the Zion Bowl, 35-34 against Helen's Mynx and 21-20 over Mike's Posse, to run up 10 straight ZFL tournament wins before losing to the Gold Miners in a high scoring championship shootout before a packed house at Spendlove Place.

Todd Ware's Eagles roll through Zion National Park

ZFL Hall of Fame Coach Todd Ware of Roy, Utah took his Eagle football team deep into the heart of the Zion Football League last weekend and came away with 2 wins.
Todd's Eagles ran in a 2 Point Conversion with 5 plays left to stun Mike's Posse 35-34 in the opening game, held at Mike's Cabin inside Zion National Park. The Eagles then turned it up with a 42-10 romp over Shawn Spendlove's Assassins in the drunken nightcap. The Assassins had led 10-0 at halftime.
The Eagles played in their first double header in over 2 decades, but proved that they haven't lost their winning touch. Todd's wife Kimberly enjoyed both contests, and was seen dancing the night away in Posse Pavilion.
The loss to the Roy Eagles sends Mike's Posse into this weekend's Zion Bowl tournament on a 7 game losing streak.
