Patriot Bowl IV Heats Up Hurricane on July 6th

(Hurricane, Utah)_ Zion Football League action returns to Hurricane, Utah on Sunday, July 6th, as the Spendlove Family hosts Patriot Bowl IV. The Patriot Bowl has become a summertime favorite, complete with ZFL fireworks. This year's Patriot Bowl begins at 10 am at Spendlove Place. The Spendlove Family will provide lots of great food, with other ZFL fans providing the usual favorites.
ZFL Notes_Mike's Posse won the first ever Patriot Bowl in 2005, when Tony's Stoners missed a field goal on the final play of the championship game, giving the Posse a 31-28 win...Tony Natalie's Air Nat won their only ZFL tournament of the 21st Century, capturing the '06 Patriot Bowl with a 49-35 win over Helen's ZFL Hall of Famer Mynx...Tim's Heat and Doug's Parowan Rams played a hard fought championship game in last year's Patriot Bowl, with the Heat's great defense leading the way in a 24-22 victory...Justin's Kaibab Mountain Cows won Zion Bowl XXIV last April with a 24-17 round-up over Mike's Posse...The Kaibab Mountain Cows and Parowan Rams share the best ZFL tournament records in 2008, each with a ZFL Crown and a 4-1 record...The party at this year's Patriot Bowl will also celebrate the 82nd birthday of Grampa Spendlove - a big fan of the Zion Football League. Grandpa recently turned 82 years old. Happy Birthday from the ZFL!

Mike's Stallions Edge Doug's Thunder 41-33 in Molson Cup VII Canadian Football Championship Game!

(Zion National Park, Utah)_Underneath the massive cliffs of Zion, the largest CFL armchair football tournament in history took place on Monday, June 2nd 2008 at Mike's cabin in Oak Creek Canyon. A partying crowd of loyal ZFL fans watched as Mike's CFL Stallions put together an impressive day of rolling over three tough CFL teams en route to the Molson Cup Crown in the first year of their existence. The Stallions and Doug's Thunder played a classic CFL duel in the championship game with the final 41-33 score not decided until late in the title contest. The Thunder saw their CFL Tournament five game winning streak stopped in that game, while Mike won his first CFL crown since 2001.
Molson Cup VII was the largest CFL tournament ever held - nine teams. Tim Spendlove and John Denney both made their CFL debuts playing against each other, in an opening game that kick-started a great tournament gathering that featured exciting Canadian games, good food, and fabulous friends.

Molson Cup Notes - The Stallions scored on a 97 yard Blocked Field Goal TD Return early in the second half of Molson Cup VII to recapture a 25-24 lead over the Thunder...The Thunder had an 83 yard Missed Field Goal TD Return against the Stallions in that game...Tim Spendlove's Hosers and John Denney's Gulls opened the tournament with a "CFL Expansion Bowl"...This
first-time CFL game played by these two ZFL Veterans was won by the Gulls 33-22...Shawn's Assassins threw five touchdown passes in their 35-20 victory over Helen's Frogs in quarter final action...Barb rolled a 91 yard Touchdown Interception Return, giving her a big lead that Tony's Tweaks could not overcome in a 38-23 Chippewa win...The Stallions 74 points scored against the Gulls is the most ever tallied by a single team in a Molson Cup tournament game...The previous record was held by Denise Taylor's Eskimos, who scored 73 points against the Thunder in 2003...showing true grit, John's CFL expansion Gulls scored on a 110 yard TD Kick Return against Mike's Stallions in that 74-35 loss...The Thunder blasted the Molson Cup record book with his 110 yard TD Kick Return against the Chippewa...Doug's Thunder also had a 110 yard TD Punt Return in that semi-final contest...Jim's Gold Miners led the Thunder 29-28 with 15 plays left in their quarter-final game, before Doug kicked through two Rouge's (Singles) to escape with a exciting 30-29 win.
