Posse Pounds Gold Miners 42-10 in Southern Utah Classic III Third Place Game!

(La Verkin, Utah)_Third place is not what ZFL teams look for when entering a tourney, yet Posse coach Mike Large was still happy with his team's 42-10 win over Jim's Gold Miners in the Southern Utah Classic third place game held at Black Sands Stadium in La Verkin on August 23rd. The win gives coach Mike his 17th 3rd place victory in his illustrious 34 year career. "The Gold Miners have been hard for us to beat through the years" the Posse mentor stated after the game. "Anytime that we can run up the score and pummel them, we will!"

The Posse led the Gold Miners 14-10 at halftime before hitting on four touchdown passes in the second half to run away with the game. The win secures third place in the ZFL standings for the Posse midway through the Zion Football League's 2009 season.

Nighthawk's Claim Southern Utah Classic IIII Championship in Pine Valley Mountains!

(Oak Grove, Utah)_Doug Spendlove's vision of an outdoor ZFL tourney in the Pine Valley Mountains proved to be not only a great stage for John Denney's first ZFL Championship, but also provided one of the most excellent partyin' ZFL tourneys held in recent years. Lots of ZFL fans and teams camped out among the tall pines and enjoyed a great ZFL weekend featuring dutch oven food, live music, and good old fashion friendship at sweet Oak Grove Campground on August 8th. John's Nighthawks soared over the mountains, winning four ZFL tournament games by a combined total of 12 points on the way to his first ZFL Crown. His Nighthawks got sweet revenge in the title tilt when they hung on to beat the ZFL's hottest team, Shawn's Assassins, 33-26. John's Nighthawks led the Assassins 26-7 at halftime.

The Nighthawk's championship snapped the Assassin's seven game winning streak... The Nighthawk's 41 yard field goal late in the first half of their semi-final battle against Jim's tough Gold Miners proved to be the winning points as both teams went scoreless in the second half of a 24-21 Nightie win...In the other semi-final, Mike's Posse could only manage a late touchdown
in a 26-9 loss to the defensive Assassins...The Nighthawks escaped with a 28-27 quarter-final win when Barb's Ghostriders missed two short field goals in the fourth quarter, including a 16 yarder on the last play...Helen's Mynx trailed the Assassins 35-0 before roaring back in a 35-20 quarter-final loss...The Gold Miners rushed for four touchdowns in a 28-21 victory over Tim's Heat in quarter-final action...Doug's Parowan and Mike's Posse combined for eleven TDs in a wild 42-38 Posse quarter-final triumph...Gary made his ZFL tourney debut as his expansion Rebels fell to ZFL Hall of Famer Mynx 35-23 in the opening round...ZFL Official Tim Spendlove called the Nighthawk's 24-23 opening round win over Beau's Cowboys "The best game I ever kept score for"...

(Oak Grove, Utah)_John Denney's Nighthawks won the Southern Utah Classic III tournament, topping off an exciting run to the title with a 33-26 win over Shawn Spendlove's powerful Assassins in the championship game. The Highhawk win gives John his first ever Zion Football League Championship and highlighted a most excellent tourney, held at Oak Grove Campground in the scenic Pine Valley Mountains.

ZFL Hall of Famer Doug Spendlove coordinated camping, cooking, musical entertainment, and other special needs, as he set a new standard for ZFL tournaments, doing an outstanding job in all areas of the weekend campout.

Southern Utah Classic III to be held at Oak Grove Campground in the Pine Valley Mountains!

(Oak Grove, Utah)_After two years of being hosted in broiling St. George, the Southern Utah Classic tournament moves to the high country as National Forest Campground Host Doug Spendlove welcomes the annual ZFL tournament to Oak Grove Campground in the scenic and cool Pine Valley Mountains on Saturday August 8th. Activities begin at 11 am. ZFL Hall of Famer Doug Spendlove has been named SUC coordinator and invites everyone to camp out throughout the weekend and has reserved three sites for your camping needs. Doug is planning a pork roast and dutch oven potato dinner on Saturday afternoon. Candi is bringing corn on the cob and Helen and John are bringing other treats as well. Mike's Posse will ride up with cookie and cake treats. Coach Spendlove mentioned that with the assistance of his "junior ranger" Beau, many of your camping needs can be easily accommodated. Doug may be reached 24 hours a day at 619-4981 and welcomes your questions, requests, as well as other Southern Utah Classic III information. Everyone is asked to bring their own ice chests and lots of water. If enough people are interested, a Saturday breakfast buffet potluck is possible.
