Assassins Seek to Assassinate ZFL All Stars in Birthday Bowl XXXIII!

(Hurricane, Utah)_The Zion Football League is proud to announce that Birthday Bowl XXXIII will take place at Hurricane's warm and friendly Spendlove Place on Sunday January 31st. Fun pre-game festivus activities will kick-off at 12 pm.
Through the years the Birthday Bowl has showcased the best players and teams from the rich history of the Zion Football League. That tradition of excellence will be continued in this year's Birthday Bowl as Shawn's powerful Assassins battle the 2010 Zion Football League All Stars in the 33rd Birthday Bowl. The Assies had a record year in 2009, capturing four ZFL tournaments titles and winning 21 tourney games. The Assassins are only the third team in ZFL history to win four ZFL tourneys in a calendar year. The only other ZFL teams to achieve that feat are Jeff Bailey's Bulldogs in 1989 and Tom Putnak's Steelers in 1993. No ZFL team has ever won 21 tourney games in a calendar year until the Assassins pulled off that amazing roll this past year.

Birthday Bowl Notes_In honor of ZFL Commissioner Mike Large's birthday, the award winning Spendlove Kitchen will provide a buffet of enchiladas and tacos. Canadian Pimp Wagon Zaps Zion Cup !

(Zion National Park, Utah) Looking nothing like a CFL armchair football expansion team, ZFL veteran Preston Bowling brought his rough and ready Canadian Pimp Wagon team into Zion National Park and rolled some amazing dice enroute to winning the first Zion Cup tournament, held at Mike's cabin on Saturday, January 2, 2009. After receiving a first round bye, the Canadian Pimp Wagon humped Jim's Gold Miners 64-30 in a Zion Cup semi-final game that wasn't as close as the score might indicate. As the Pimp Wagon paraded into the final game against Shawn's always powerful Assassins, they continued to throw hot dice, and outscored the CFL Assies 59-42. Coach Preston is undefeated in Canadian armchair football (3-0).
Mike provided a spaghetti feast which featured meatballs of all sizes. Doug's salad and Helen's deserts added to a great holiday buffet beneath the snow covered cliffs of Zion National Park.

Zion Cup Notes_ZFL Hall of Famer Randy Mounts dropped by to greet the crowd and set the stage for the Zion Cup as he pulled names out of the hat, deciding first round match ups…Jim's Gold Miner defense had both a 96 yard TD interception return and a 87 yard TD interception return in their semi-final loss to the Canadian Pimp Wagon…The Assassins scored touchdowns on a punt return, a blocked punt return, a kick-off return, and recovered a fumble in the end zone while rolling up 10 TDs and winning an offensive battle 69-52 over Doug's Thunder in the semi-finals…Doug threw 5 TD passes in that loss…Mike's Stallions overcame a 17-8 halftime deficit and roared back to a 26-18 fourth quarter lead over Jim's Gold Miners in the opening round... The Gold Miners then scored two touchdowns within the last twelve plays to stun the Stallions 32-26…
